Tor Metrics takes a Privacy First Approach

Tor Metrics Tor Metrics serves as the central mechanism employed by The Tor Project to assess open data from the Tor ecosystem and relay nodes. Tor Metrics is relied upon by Tor users and researchers for reviewing and expanding upon Tor usage and technical measurements. As part of this effort, a technical white paper was generated, outlining the process of data production, collection, aggregation, and presentation within Tor Metrics. Additionally, a statistical assessment specification for aggregate data was developed. The goals of a privacy and anonymity network like Tor are not easily combined with extensive data gathering, but at the same time data is needed for monitoring, understanding, and improving the network. Data can be used to detect possible censorship events or attacks against the network.
